Description:
Note: Well, here is a new map I made in the Dune universe. In Arrakis (6), I was pondering how I could incorporate a sandworm into the map, and in this map, I not only put a worm in, I made it so you can run on top of it and inside it (eww). I also wanted the map to be assymmetric, so I made one side Fremen with rocky natural formations, and a Harkonnen side which is industrial and has slaves and huge pipe networks. I am not sure if I balanced it good enough for both sides but if anyone has any complaints, I will change it in another version.
I also thought it would be interesting to have the Hakonnen side have defense turrets and soldiers. Of course they are all neutral. Sometimes the imperial guard troops look like they have had too much caffeine and will spasm at anyone who comes near, also the bolter turrets will stare suspiciously at anything that walks, drives, or stomps by. I made some really steep dunes for vehicle ramping action and they seem to work well.It may play kind of slowly, I did my best to improve performance, though it may play slightly jittery. I hope you enjoy it, I have been working on this for a week and I have spent many hours on it!

You certainly get a 10/10 from me! I hope some screenshots are coming soon, if you need help with this I would be happy to take some for you. Thanks for giving us another awesome map! |

I laughed hard on Thing, that actually separates map in a half... Slaugandwor sandword, hehe, very original. 9/10 from me. |

If the developer wants to he can pick from any of these and work it out with FileFront to get them posted, or a staff member is welcome to post any that look good enough. Once screenshots are posted I plan to remove this link since I can't keep them here forever. |

good job. 7/10.
major problem is that two strategic on the back of the worm can't be reach because of impass map blocking. this gives an ege for race taht can teleport ot jump. ig and nec here can't even think about capturing these points.

redeemed74 From: (Xenia, Ohio) Joined: June 7th, 2008 Posts: 286 | Good point, JaguarLord, this perhaps needs a bit of touch up to be better compatiible with Dark Crusade and Soulstorm, which most people are using nowdays. I see those pink boxes for "habblock_03" and I'd be willing to give it a once-over to remove those and correct the impass issues you raised. There actually is a very narrow trail that makes them accessible, but only very small units like guardsmen could make it. It should be widened to two spaces width, even on corners, to allow Ogryns and the like to make it. Since the developer truly is unknown I guess it belongs to the community so there shouldn't be a problem in doing an upgrade? I think it is a rather original map and is worth the effort. |
redeemed74 From: (Xenia, Ohio) Joined: June 7th, 2008 Posts: 286 | Well, here is an interesting discovery! In the texture file I found a signature, "D. Badger". I checked around and found that Demonic Badger made a lot of maps and B&B's, including a scenario of Arrakis:
http://dawnofwar.filefront.com/file/Arrakis;39165
There are many very distinct similarities between these and I don't think there can be any doubt that this current one is of his creation. I attempted to send him an email through these comment pages, at the minimum hoping that he can be credited for all his work. If he wants to adjust it to correct the issues that JaguarLord has raised that's great, otherwise I'm still happy to do it with his permission. So I'll give him a chance to respond and see what his take is on it, and if he has vanished into cyberspace then perhaps in a week or two I will just send in the update and see what happens. |

the evidence was in the file intro text.
imo releasing a corected version won't do harm. |

http://www.snapdrive.net/files/573283/Arrakis_Tears_of_Shai-Hulud_2.0.zip
1. Incompatible entities removed
2. narrow walkways opened to permit larger squads and small vehicles
3. Install path changed from W40K to DXP2
JL, would you like to give this another check over to see if there is anything else that should be changed before posting? |
