 |
Description:
An oddball and truly wonderful mod which places you in direct control of a Chaos Rhino. By direct I mean you actually steer it around yourself using the number keys. Your mission is to squish the living speed bumps and make it to the end of the track. Definitely worth a try if you want something different. Enjoy!

Greetings Acolyte,
You have been cordially invited to attend lessons at Khorne's Driving School for the Gifted. Upon enrolment you will be given the keys to your very own* Chaos Rhino - none of this directing from on high malarky, this time you will hands on control the vehicle. Using the number keys 1-9 to steer the Rhino it is your choice of whether you take on the Khorne Bowl and eliminate all the meatspeedbumps or go for the Rhino Rally and maneuver through the various gates. Either way, you will soon empathise with the units you have often cursed for having bad pathing!
For your convenience we have drawn directional references onto your satnav system, and we also recommend that you use your right hand to control the arrow keys and keep your Rhino on screen. If all else fails the ' key (country specific) will autofocus the camera on the Rhino .
We hope you enjoy your stay at Khorne's Driving School for the Gifted, please note that unathorised mouse usage will lead to expulsion. In addition, not having starting positions to 'Fixed' will also lead to an unauthorised level of confusion.
To complete enrollment, put all files in the "C:\Program Files\THQ\Dawn of War - Dark Crusade\DXP2\Data\scenarios\mp" or equivalent directory.
Have a bloody stay,
Fuggles
*Well, it's yours now, we need a new driver, this one's dead. | |

Sounds good. Wish Filefront would sort this site out and list all the maps for a paticular user, because I quite fancy getting a hold of your lot.
Bear in mind if there's a way to do this already, then I apologise. <_< |

Just played it and I could barely control the thing!
If you were going to improve it (and I suggest doing so) then I'd say, if you can, make it use the number pad on the right of the keyboard and make it properly obey you. (i.e. pressing 8 makes it go forward, 6 is right, 4 is left, 2 is backwards and the others are for turning diagonally) |

Firstly, big thanks for taking some time out to try my map - it's much appreciated and makes the whole thing worthwhile (even if you think it sucks its better than if no-one tries it).
With regards to those having control issues... You may have noticed that no-one else has done anything like this with DoW on either a map or a mod level. I don't know if this is because I am missing something but I think that it's not possible without access to the source. Certainly source access was what allowed direct control of a ship in Homeworld and from my mod work I don't know anything which gives explicit 'turn left' ' go forward' 'reverse' functionality - it is after all, a mouse driven game.
I appreciate that the controls aren't as easy as you would like, but I haven't done this to spite you or make your life hard. There are reasons why it has to be linked to the number keys and unless someone can tell me a better way, then I'm afraid that this is the way it has to stay.
To be honest I'm pleased with this map and the fact that it does actually work! I don't mean to dismiss anyone's criticisms, but I've had to think of some pretty creative workarounds to the problem - if it was simple then I'm sure someone would have done it by now. Hopefully you can persevere and find some nugget of fun hidden away?
Until next year then... take care and TTFN |

Now your next project .. a multiplayer death race in all races transport vehicles. with lap times and number of kills, while trying to take out each other in the mean time. That too would be sweet. And a very Happy Christmas to you and yours as well. Keep up the great work, 1010 |

marneus90 From: Joined: April 10th, 2005 Posts: 1087 | I'm sorry, I got so tied up and annoyed with how it controls that I didn't think about anything else.
I have to say it's a hell of an idea and I congratulate you on at least making it work. It's probably the most creative thing I've ever seen in a DoW map.

I agree with #16, multiplayer death race would be awesome and perhaps different/more interesting terrain? The Korn Bowl and driving through gates seems a bit aimless. I'm a sucker for detail.
Although not an original concept its a first for DOW.
