Nurglings Mod! (1.0) - File Description

Description:

If you like slimy, pint-sized daemons, then this might just be the mod for you! Swarm your opponents with Nurglings, a new unit brought to you by Mudflap! Players familiar with the Warhammer 40k universe no doubt will recognize the little monsters right away, but for everyone else, above are some screenshots of what a Nurgling looks like. In Warhammer 40k, nurglings are daemons of Nurgle, one of the four gods of chaos. Now that the background is aside, download and play!

Nurglings Mod! (1.0) - Readme
Readme File:
Nurglings!!! Mod V1.0
by Mudflap
http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/nurglings/

Congratulations scarred champion of chaos. Your foul deeds have won
you notice in the far reaches of the abyss. Nurgle has tasted your mettle
and found you suitable for his unfathomable purposes. As a token of this
recognition he has granted you a gift. You can now summon hordes of nurglings
to do your will across the battlefields of the imperium and the warp.

Nurlgings are the knee-high servants of the champions of Nurgle. They spawn into
large squirming packs and rend a path of destruction wherever they pass. They attack only at
close range but hit hard and mass in large groups.

Who is Nurgle? Nurgle is the Great Lord of Decay who presides over physical corruption and morbidity.
Disease and putrefaction attract him like a fly to a rotted corpse. It is the lives of
lepers and the sorrows of the sick that fascinate him most. For his amusement he devises
foul contagions which he inflicts upon the world. Many of the most horrible diseases are
the creations of Nurgle, including the nauseating Red Pox and the most disgusting of all,
Nurgle's Rot.(Taken from the Warhammer Realm of Chaos book)

New Stuff in the mod:

Original nurgling models and anims
New FX including exploding zits and fly swarms
Green Spectral death FX for Nurgling deaths

Mod Installation:

Requirements: Winter Assault and/or Dawn of War Version 1.41 or 1.4

To install the mod, unzip the files into your Dawn of War folder.

The files will unzip into a folder called "Nurgling_Mod"
All the files, except the one needed to start the mod and this readme, will unzip into this folder and have been
designed not to affect your core W40K files.

After you unzip the mod, open Winter Assault or DOW and click on the Game Manager. Select Nurglings!!! and activate it.

This will start the mod.

Then go to skirmish mode and start a skirmish. Play a chaos army.

When you start the game you will find that the nurglings can be spawned from your Desecrated Stronghold. Watch out for the pus!

They will spawn in attack stance. They have no ranged attacks.

They also have the ability to claim strategic points, jump by means of a fly swarm, and deepstrike from the sacrificial circle in a hail of Nurgling rain.

Then look in the Chaos Temple. There is a disabled icon for "Debase yourself on Nurgle's Putrid Altar". Once you upgrade your desecrated
stronghold you will then be able acticate the icon and do research to get Palanquin Nurglings.

Palanquin Nurglings have the same abilities as Nurglings except that they can also transport infantry units with the "Palanquin of Nurgle" ability;
very useful because they can carry units and jump with them or deepstrike with them. These guys have 2 random heads so you can tell them apart
from your other nurglings.

This mod (modeling, rigging, animating, texturing, fx tweaking, and coding) was created solely by Mudflap with Palii kindly providing the fly swarm FX.

This mod is in no way endorsed by THQ, Relic, or Games Workshop.

This mod can be used whole or in part for any noncommercial use. Please just give Mudflap and Palii credit by including our URLs below
in the readme.

what can I say...Roll Eyes (sarcastic)

 #5 - Posted by: Brother_asmodai (Member) on 02-18-2006 at 18:47
Hmmmm I'm going to give this a try because it actually looks like a good idea. Couple of questions though.

How many to a unit? If only 5 (like horrors) do you reckon you could get them 2 to a thingy to get the horde effect?

Does it just add nurglings or have you opened up some of the other things like the corrupted psyker, the daemon prince etc? Sure these aren't new or amazing things, but it'll add a bit more bite to you mod

Admittedly there a bit too harshly green, but thats down to taste. Do a bit more work guys your on the right track, especially if you can get plague bearers in too.

Oh and dont rip into these guys. Look at this, then go look at some of the other mods around. Sure there not at the top, but I wouldnt whack them at the bottom.

#6 - Posted by: melooo (Member) on 02-18-2006 at 20:15
the idea is great and the mod sounds cool, but for sake of NURGLE try to get an texturer
there are lot guys that can do a better texture for the nuglings so i'll keep an eye on this mod, but i wont download it

i'll wait till next update hoping for better graphics

 #7 - Eh... - Posted by: Zke (Member) on 02-18-2006 at 22:54
Yeah... Go with the full death gaurd mod before tossing us some... deformed elves. Also, take a look at Games Workshop's Nurgling models. They kinda bunch up together in swarms and leave a nasty mess behind.

 #8 - Posted by: CrossOrion2006 (Member) on 02-18-2006 at 22:56
No wonder mod teams don't like posting their files here... critics are harsh. and childish, really.

#9 - Graphics are cool ingame.... Trust Me - Posted by: mudflap (Member) on 02-18-2006 at 23:42
Hi folks,

I have to appologize for these screenshots. The texture looks way better ingame. I think it has something to do with screwey gamma correction on the computer I took the screenshots with. Also they need to be a bit gaudy because the units are so small it is the only way to make them stand out ingame.

Cheers,

Mudflap

 #10 - Cute - Posted by: Ayslashyk (Member) on 02-19-2006 at 01:10
The Texture themself look okay for me... but those damn little evil look the way too "cute"...

ummm... gj anyway..

 #11 - Gremlins - Posted by: Astarte (Member) on 02-19-2006 at 02:10
Has anyone ever seen the movie gremlins? Preciseley.......................

 #12 - Posted by: $hrimp (Member) on 02-19-2006 at 02:56
This mod isn't bad until u add a captain to your squad of nurgles. Then the only person to attack in the squad is a stupid captain with a little bolter gun. it's annoying. But still the nurgles look funny and there so small. lol smile

#13 - Posted by: lotafatguys (Member) on 02-19-2006 at 03:07
errr???.............confusedconfusedconfused

#14 - Posted by: bigtimewarlord (Member) on 02-19-2006 at 03:18
get some nurgle plague marines in there!!!! (i call them the goat men) they look funny

 #15 - Posted by: TAU_are_the_best (Member) on 02-19-2006 at 04:01
now people come on im going to giv mudflap full support on this cos they would have been harder to do when they are tht small he got the height right and they look mischevios not cute (infact they are darn ugly buggers well done) the texture looks good to me and plus this is only a 1.0, 1.0 !!! which means he will be wrking on it plus he may choose to add more deamons but that is up to him.

ignore the nasty childish comments mudflap.

they rock RockRockRock

#16 - Posted by: BadgerNun (Member) on 02-19-2006 at 04:38
Does look promising, but only if you add more units and other stuff in there apart from the Nurglings.
My point is, not many people will download if there is only one new thing in the whole mod, will they?
People like me want mods like the brilliant Leftout Units mod or the God-like Steel Legion mod.
I would create my own mod with all the stuff in, but I don't know how.

#17 - Posted by: sgtstu (Member) on 02-19-2006 at 05:02
lol they look quite amusing but chaos takes many forms, and i thinks they're pretty cool and seem difficult to make really so gj.

 #18 - WAHHOOOO - Posted by: farsite666 (Member) on 02-19-2006 at 05:10
thx man you have made me like this site agen im still laughing these guys rock hehe big grinstick out tongue thx man agen keep up the good work best mod out at the mo!

#19 - PRETTY DAMN GOOD - Posted by: WARLORDRICH (Member) on 02-19-2006 at 06:10
This is a pretty cool mod. they do look a bit too cute tho altho they remind me a bit of the gremlins from that movie..lol. Nice job tho they r brilliant for hoarding and actually gives the game an ork busting close combat unit. For improvements if u make another version of this mod u cud make the great unclean one summonable cos that would suit them perfectly.

in fact why not make an entire nurgle race, that wud sooo totallyRock

anyway im off to spawn some gremlins

Two Thumbs Up!

Devil!

 #20 - :p - Posted by: TrueRandomRun (Member) on 02-19-2006 at 06:21
that reminds me of somthing, lol it is a great idea but it looks like something u stepped on in the street, give it a bit more time mate and u mkight get it a little better smile Rock on

#21 - Posted by: CommanderFox (Member) on 02-19-2006 at 07:22
After playing games for a long time, getting into hundreds of sci-fi and fantasy and pretty much every other thing that is of some genre (anime etc.) just for the hell of it, I still even to this day see the posts in forums... comments... and reviews get more and more stupid with each and every year.

A good thing to remember... If you don't know anything about something... ASK. Don't go making stupid idiotic comments out of pure ignorance, unless of cause you enjoy people laughing at you.

Ok now my rants on the idiot posts are over now onto my opinion.

Decent job you done there... it is nice to see that the other Gods of Chaos are showing up (not counting Thousand Sons since their mod is not released yet).

Ok about the textures... could do with some brushing up. Also I would personally like to see the model series that had vomit and worm tongues among these, they were awesome!

Hmmmm.... where are the Plaguebearers?

#22 - Posted by: BadgerNun (Member) on 02-19-2006 at 08:09
Fine, then, I suppose Commander Fox was talking to me.
Well, i've got all the tools, can any1 teach me how to make my own mod?
My e-mail is badgernun@hotmail.co.uk

#23 - Posted by: grdsman (Member) on 02-19-2006 at 08:32
hmm, you might have some competition, im not sure if you have seen the denzines (sp?) mod, its Death Guard, and iron warriors so for, but i think they are going to add the Emperors children and World Eaters

Seriously man... This is one of the best things i´ve seen in DOW. That things are completely surrealistic and wonderfulsmile. Hahahaha!!! Make more, plz!!!

#25 - Posted by: Wildside (Member) on 02-19-2006 at 22:59
they look so ***..........plus...........ingame graphics r cool from far away, suck up close when taking screenshots n stuff..........did u guys know the graphics and textures of units n buildings looks a lot better then ingame play (skrimish, multiplayer) in tutorial? i just realized that when i want messing around in tutorial...............damn relic doesnt know how to make this game look good on the outside........

#26 - Posted by: CommanderFox (Member) on 02-20-2006 at 07:48
Oh yeah forgot to ad, These guys don't have 2 massive horns sticking out the side of its head like wings... Nurglings are supposed to look like this:

They are slimes... Big clue. BIG GROSS BLOBS with small barbs in them and resemble a fat monkey pumped full of green toxic waste.

Ok that sums it up.

 #27 - OK............... - Posted by: space_marine (Member) on 02-20-2006 at 08:11
ok....they r small, waddle and rain from they sky. Look funny and green wot r they? i dnt even kno myself...

 #28 - Posted by: The2vs2KING (Member) on 02-20-2006 at 08:21
in most pics dont have legs they look like little green terds not like gretchins with an eating problem but its progress and its a chaos mod so its fine but come on look in the chaos codex nurglings look nothing like that

#29 - Thankx for the comments - Posted by: mudflap (Member) on 02-20-2006 at 09:51
Hi Folks,

Thanks for trying this out. It has always been my postion that one of the best things about mods is that you can create content that wouldn't normally have a viable market, thus I have created nasty little fly-infested nurglings with a gruesome skin condition that spawn from an exploding zit. I have to disagree that they don't have legs. Although I am basing my model on my miniatures from 1990. Maybe they have since had an image change. I found it quite challenge to think of what happens when the Nurglings stand up and walk. Most of the minis have them squatting, except for the palanquin of nurgle where they have legs and are stacked up on each other.

Fat gremlins seems right to me. I think Boobah's are a Zeentch's response to Nurglings. Maybe I'll make a Boobah unit, that way I can get some techo trance music ingame.

My understanding of Nurglings is that they are fat little *****s that delight in the carnage and pestilence they spread. Thus the maniacal smiles in this one.

More units will come, assuming that meatspace constraints don't get in the way (I've got baby no. 2 coming :eeksmile.

Cheers,

Mudflap

 #30 - Posted by: the_splurge (Member) on 02-20-2006 at 10:08
These are great little models. But there has been some serious changes to the nurglings since the 1990's. Check out GW's site for images. Most people don't remember the 1990's models, so won't appreciate what you have done. Seriously folks, these are exactly what theold models looked like. Mudflap, if you can create the new nurglings, then people will love this mod. It's grea fun, but the old models are putting people off a bit.

#31 - Posted by: Nahara (Member) on 02-20-2006 at 16:45
ha this mod is great I pray to Father Nurgle that there will be a full Death Guard mod with plague marines and one of my favorite model TYPHUS! also I though nurgles looked a bit more like this http://rowusa.org/greenbum/issue1/images/creepy01.jpg

heh I got a kick out of that.

#32 - Out with the old man... sorry... - Posted by: CommanderFox (Member) on 02-21-2006 at 05:12
Unfortunately MudFlap Dawn of War uses 1998+ models and 2001+ vehicles (Land Raider and the Eldar Vehicles being the exception, they are 1996+) models so its a good idea to use models that go with this particular current interpretation of them.

As much as I liked 2nd edition of Warhammer 40 000, I HATED most of the models... the Nurglings especially. They looked like gremlins with massive horns instead of ears.

Only decent models from back then was the Chaos Marines and the Ork Nobs.

Everything else looked chunky and unrealistic... that's because they at the time where going though a fad, that fad being "lets cast our models in 3 easy to put together pieces to make it easier for young players to put together. By 1995 this tread was completely phased out and a new one that focused on people being allowed the freedom to create their own poses was put in.

But even today they still cast most of their older redundant minis as in one or two pieces in metal.

#33 - Thanks for the History Lesson - Posted by: mudflap (Member) on 02-21-2006 at 10:21
Commander Fox, Thanks for the history lesson. But sadly I seek to recreate the Warhammer 40K I loved back when lead was king.

Nahara, thanks for the funny pic. No more walkin! hah! Devil!

#34 - TO mudflap, yeah, I wish to help. - Posted by: Zany_Reaper (Member) on 02-22-2006 at 12:09
This message addresses Mudflap only...

Hey! I think that the comments can be a bit wild out there Mudflap eh? Well, I can model, but don't have any means myself of exporting in .max format, as I use Truespace 5.2, not 3DSMAX.

If you wish, I can help you make new heads, & if possible, other body parts, or even other things not related to Chaos (how about some Orky tingz? Dat wuld beh da bestast ting, eh? Wat abowt da Orky Kannon Grot Big Gunz Battery dat I've been workin' on?).
How about it?

Please reply - Ed.

 #40 - module - Posted by: Zany_Reaper (Member) on 03-10-2006 at 13:41
Have you unzipped the .module file into the root directory?
The other mod files should be unzipped to the WXP directory. Read the readme (if there is one).

(P.S. - I've teamed up with Mudflap to create models & give ideas for new projects in Dawn of war. Stay waiting for the next surprise! Hopefully appearing at the end of this month.)
