The Stand I - File Description

Description:
Located in a valley surrounded by small rivers, high mountains and a dark past, this battlefield will prove its name in a bloody way. The thymele in the center has been declared as holy ground by the priests ages ago - but few know about that these days. Today, these ruins witness fights to the bone - though the ancient spell still protects the sacred places from most of the vehicles used during war.

Thank you very much for downloading my first DoW MP map, THE STAND I. That's an uppercase "i" at
the end and it stands for the roman letter one. So I layed out a path for more maps in a series
of THE STAND maps, e.g. THE STAND II or when I'm getting old maybe one day THE LAST STAND. :-)
It somehow depends on how this first attempt will get accepted by the DoW fans around the globe.
I hope you like it. Your feedback and criticism is highly appreciated! Please drop me a line at

INSTALLATION:

The content of the ZIP file will expand into a folder "4p_the_stand_I":

4p_the_stand_I_icon_custom.tga
4p_the_stand_I_mm_custom.tga
4p_the_stand_I.sgb
4p_the_stand_I.tga
read_me.txt (the document you're reading now)

and an subfolder "loading".

This one holds an custom loading screen for the map. Please copy the first four files into:
"\W40k\Data\Scenarios\MP". If the directory structure doesn't exist, just create it. In case there
isn't a folder "loading" in the folder MP allready, you can copy the one that comes with the ZIP. If there is allready a folder "loading", please copy just the content.

WARNING: The file in the folder "loading" also has the name of my map: "4p_the_stand_I.tga", but differs from the content of the file "4p_the_stand_I.tga" that resides in the MP folder. Don't mix it up, otherwise THE STAND I will not work!

THE STAND I is a small-sized (128 x 256) map meant to be played by four players divided into two teams. I've tested this map also with the help of my brother (Slobjok) for about 8-10 hours. The glitches that are left are small ones like very few parts at the serpentines where troops will stand 45° or more degrees to the slope. Testing showed that one of the players will sooner or later be forced into a corner - leaving him no option but to barricade himself in his base. His buddy (if still alive) can send troops to his allies base over the narrow canyon - out of sight of their enemies. This situation occurred to me several times and it was really satisfying to storm down the ramp and descend on the opponent with joint forces! Another strategy I tried - and found to be working nicely - is to capture the central strategic point and spread up there big-stlyle . As no vehicles can come up (although flying units can and tanks can shoot up - but this is what makes this area a "STAND"), I get them to guard the ramps. Moreover you can do short bursts into enemy territory and float back fast into savety.

All this makes the "annihilation" mode perfect, which was essential in choosing the name for this map. Bots play this map well too, capture relics and critical points and even build thermo plasmagenerators if needed.

So have fun with this Map, feel free to load it up in the editor and take a look around, but please don't modify anything inside it.
As said before, I appreciate your feedback.

Take care - KaoT (January 2005)
