	The Chaos Space Marines

Death to the weakling Imperium of Man!" – common Chaos battle cry Born in a bloodbath of betrayal, the Chaos Space Marines are the darkest of villains. Although they were once proud members of the Imperium’s great and honorable Space Marine chapters, these traitors fell willingly under the sway of the diabolic Chaos Gods, the infernal entities who gnaw at the edges of reality, greedily devouring the souls of the damned. When these heretics betrayed the Emperor and abandoned their sworn brothers in exchange for the promise of immortality, little did they realize that the path to immortality would lead straight through a hell of mutation and madness. At the end of that road, the reward that awaits these blasphemers is transformation into daemonhood and an eternity as slaves to Chaos. Yet the Chaos Space Marines lustily embrace their fate. Fueled by a burning hatred of the Emperor and all that He stands for, they fight with skill and cunning. They are the cornerstone fighting unit of the forces of Chaos, but they do not fight alone. Many other squads of infantry fight alongside them, including the Possessed Space Marines, Chaos Space Marines who have been possessed and transformed by daemons. These monsters thrive in the cesspool of close combat, using their daemonic strength and razor-like talons to rip their enemies limb-from-limb. For those brave souls who fight against the forces of Chaos, still more nightmares must be faced. For on the field of battle, Horrors await. Horrors are terrifying daemons that, when summoned into battle, viciously incinerate their enemy’s armies with daemonic fire. Far worse than a pack of Horrors is the Bloodthirster, a winged daemon that is the incarnation of the power of the Chaos god of carnage and war, Khorne. Looming and intimidating at thirty feet tall, the Bloodthirster uses his awesome weapons, along with his deadly teeth, claws, and feet to slice, dice and decimate the enemy. Entire armies have met their deaths on the Bloodthirster’s surgically sharp blades. At the lead of each bloody battle in the never-ending war against the Imperium is a Chaos Lord. A Chaos Lord has a wide range of weapons at his disposal, but he does not rely on cold steel or hot plasma to destroy his enemies. His fierce power is derived from his Chaos gifts, which enhance his physical characteristics, imbuing him with the strength of daemons and inspiring paralyzing fear and hopeless dread in the hearts of his enemies. Bloodlust and ten thousand years of bitter hatred fuel these forces of Chaos, driving their relentless crusade to destroy the Emperor and reduce His Imperium to ashes. Paragons of an all-consuming battle-lust, Khorne Berzerkers savage opponents with maniacal frenzy. The best way to play chaos is to fully upgrade your Possessed marines and Predators and then attack your enemy using the marines on there units and the preds on there buildings (I have won many games this way On and Offline).

If you ever fight someone who plays daemonhunters (mod) don't build any daemon orientated units or they will be killed extremely quickly by any grey knight squads they come against (I learnt this the hard way).

Ok I tried to beat Orks with Chaos against the Computer at hard mode, but so far what happened to me was that i got beaten by Orks. Now i usually am able to rid Space marines and Eldar easily at hard mode, but somehow the Orks are just alot harder. Does someone have a strat to beat Orks with Chaos?

Orks are easy to kill with chaos just use possessed marines throughout the game and also build defilers and obliterators to give them support.

Has anyone else noticed that compared to the avatar and squiggoth the bloodthirster is actually quite crap in comparison i mean it does less damage than the avatar, it constantly loses health, when it possess a unit if that unit is killed quickly the bloodthirster does not appear, and you have to sacrifice and hero or sergeant to summon the damn thing. I surely think that Bloddthirsters should only be used if you are getting pummeled and need something to hold the enemy off while you regroup. Two Thumbs Down!

I hope I caught your attention. Recently I've tried several mods and none work...space hulk acts bizzare, and Dark_angels says it does not exist, and Grey Knights says fatal scar error. I want to use these very baddly, but to no avail. I do read the install files and extract the appropriate files where they need to go. Does anyone have any advice.

Chaos easy to like hard to master i mean if you versus the space marines you take it hard multiplayer or not with dreadnaughts and terminators one thing i hate is that bloody hellfire dreadnaught it just sits there shooting missiles with someclose combat units hanging near it protecting it from any *****ult

I like defilers obliterators chaos lord and marines in my army i rarely take a sorcerer and dont paticullary go for daemons (except bloodthirsters)

3 Preds - orks/eldar leave one heavy bolter, the autocannon for rest
3 Defilers - have them go in first
4 Units of Chaos Marines - good idea to do 2 plasgun or 2 heavy bolter and 2 Missilelaunchers
5 2 units of possessed + 1 unit of Raptors or 4 units of Raptors, depending on situation, I like plasma guns personally, they flame only shortly begore HTH, but if you make them shoot they pull in great against possessed.
6 Cultists/Obliterators/Horrors - these units I do not find use for, daemons cannot reinforce, obliterators do same damage and die faster than two SM squads with more comulative morale and cultists are just a waste of space unless you rely on their grenade launchers.

If you hate insane computers, here's a tip. Play against a comp that uses the race you want to lear, survive as long as you can then die, record then watch and learn. (its how I learned to get good). Exception of eldar, need to specialise against your enemies.

first of all i heard up earlier in this that the obliterators are the chaos termies. thats not true, chaos do have their own termies. the army of chaos is basicly in fact the same thing as the regular space marines, they just have possessed and mutated creatures with them allong side. they also do have their own dred's witch i find a very powerful unit in the tabletop game. i collect and play a chaos army on the tabletop. to tell you the truth, in this game the chaos army are really really undermined. they can be powerful yes. however the use of dreds and the chaos armor units is a key in the tabletop game. not to mention the use of demons. i have a undevided army and i use every kind of demon there is. i have all 4 greater demons but i love the bloodthirster the best. hes my pride. the chaos sorcerror (sp) is by far weaker than anything in DOW. but in the tabletop game he will own anyone. my sorc is Abbadonn of The Thousand Sons. this guy is the pimp of sorc's and knows just about every type of dark magic you can think of. hes very powerful if used well.

the seizures is the sad cause of being possessed by a great evil. they shake due to the fact that their souls are fighting the demons within the armor. the Thousand Sons army accualy has every part of their armor welded shut. due to the fact that the demons within them are so powerful that if there was an open crack in the armor, the demon would escape leaving the body of the dude lifeless. and his soul would be gone forever.

firstly it's Ahriman (Spelling?) of the thousand sons, and the thousand sons armour is sealed magically to prevent the soul of the marine from being cast into the warp as there is no body withing the armour, a spell caused by the sorcerors of the thousand sons causing all non-sorceror marines to be turned to dust. also, yes bloodthrister is cool, but i prefer the Great Unclean One, so much harder to kill, every battle i've seen with a bloodthirster, they always managed to overwhelm him, i saw a unit of conscripts take one down, and a unit of pathfinders to the same with rail rifles

i agree with the nosh and the guy after him, chaos are really undermined they are so much stronger in the table top game than in dow, which is real bummer as chaos would completely annihalate everything else. Quite dissapointing Two Thumbs Down!

The eldar avatar if you look at the stats. somewhere around 45 more hitpoints (not too signifigant) and does almost twice the damage!!!

My friends have actually done testing on this subject. On a one on one fight, the bloodthirster beat the avatar every. It makes no sense! So, I guess, dispite it's stats, the Bloodthirster might be more powerful than we think.

It is still a toss up in my book: the Avatar may do 2x the damage, but the Bloodthirster ignores armor in his attacks...

Why are there are no thousand sons? I mean they are the coolest ever. I am saddened by that, and so far I haven't seen a mod on them yet.

I really think that chaos are the shiznit and that they should b able to get the daemon prince. I think the bloodthirster beats the avatar is it attacks quicker

I play Chaos in fantasy warhammer and even they could beat the 40k chaos! The tt chaos own, chaos here don't. Defilers are ultra death things and the dreds are more well-rounded. Heck, a chaos marauder could eat a defilers head off! Well, they might have screwed chaos up because they're too powerful.....otherwise YOU WILL BE *****IMILATED BY CHAOS :*****imilate:

it dosent matter what army you play in the video game you can still kick the crap out of the other guys just got to know what to build and where to build.. i wish the choas had the land raider and their own terminators plus the obliterators... then the sm would get there azerial (spelling error) and some of there other charaters. i like khorne bezerkers i want to see kharn the betrayer (i would love to see some of the vehicaluar upgrades like the deamon poss and the extra armour or the mutaible hull. ) iron warriors would be nice addition

Well, I collect IG, Daemonhunters, SM & CSM in TT. In my opinion, combine my IG and my Daemonhunters and Im practically invincible. Im covered in all areas. My doctrines allow use of Vindicres to pick off large units like the Nightbringer and Deceiver, and my 3 Leman Russes to smash the living hell out of anything stupid enough to stand still. Guardsmen are cheap and extremely flexible, 40 attack from 20 guardsmen on the charge, easily enough to wipe a Berserker squad, or even terminators. And yes I strike at the same time, my doctrines allow I4, close order drill. =]

In theory, this game does underrate Chaos, but when IG come out in Winter *****ault, Ima make a traitor legion colour scheme, slap up with a Chaos ally, and voila!

Chaos are the worst army in dow. They only win because they mass about 10 dreds, nothing seems to kill them fast. even with 3 full units of sm with 4 missles per unit it takes about 20 shots to kill them but they take out about half of your units in the proccess. Then they mass the damned defilers. They must put a limit on the amount of defilers you can have. 2-3 max. to be fair same with dreds, prism tanks, terminators, obliterators, tanks, killer kans etc. And what also sucks is that a normal unit of chaos space marines can have 10 guys in it. compared to 8 for sm. Space marines have it hard in DOW. it all needs to be changed in the next patch.

The Bloodthirster actually is way, way, way stronger than the Avatar. My friend was a producer for this game and he told me that it was a stuff up in the creation of the game!
I have personally tested it out and I agree with him: In one on one the Bloodthirster completely snapped the Avatar on many occasions!!! If you get a Bloodthirster and attack a unit, for example, how often do you kill the enemy in one hit? About 99% of the time!!! Now take the Avatar and do the same! The Avatar kills an enemy in one hit very rarely; about 10% of the time!!! Plus, the Bloodthirster can cut through an enemies armour but an Avatar cannot!
So in closing I would like to say the Bloodthirster is SO MUCH STRONGER THAN AN AVATAR AND F*** YOU WHO DO NOT AGREE!

Ok. Now i am going to end this debate, here and now. The avatar has around 1000 attack points and the bloodthirster has 500, BUT, the bloodthirster is three times faster at attacking than the avatar giving it a superior 1500 attack points. Discussion over!!!

but the attack points are based on how damage they do a second so attack speed is taken into account but the bloodthirster is better because it has more armour penetration

get the total war mod and ask a buddy to play lan with you play on a big map and get up to the blood thirster and avatar areas then put your avatars in no attack mode in the middle then spawn the three blood thirsters nearbye in the front

well chaos can be pretty powerfull in the tabletop game, but if you can outnumber them or outgun them they suck. Or even better both. last time i played against chaos with my IG Icharn 13th regiment (converted cadians with good all-round doctrines) i don't use many tanks instead i attack allong an huge front with tons of infantry. what can 30 marines and a coupple of predators do against 125 guardsmen. and 13 is NOT an unlucky number!

but i am afraid they will give the IG a fair figth in DOWWA.

Whoever said thast space marines have it hard in this game is cleary not paying attention. They get landraiders, terminators, assault Terminators!, Whirlwinds, MELTA BOMBS, Librarian is much better than the chaos sorcerer. This is for #44 after Horus had 8 of the 16 LEGIONS of SM's side with him the Emperor made it to were the SM would have only 1,000 SMs each, but Chaos didn't fallow that rule so that is why they have 11 in a squad instead of 8.

Why people are going on about avatar vs bloodthirster. Avatar can win cause why would you attack with just an avatar on a bloodthirster when you create the avatar it increases the production rate of all units so theres a bonus. All you need to do is get a fast unit to run around the bloodthirster cause when its not in battle it looses health and hey presto but really that doesn't work. last time i beat the bloodthirster with 2 squads of marnines with 2 heavy bolters each. It looked like it got pinned but i didn't know the bloodthirster could get pinned cause the avatar can't.

The Bloodthirster is arguably the most powerful unit in the game because, even though it has 500 attack points it attacks three times faster than an Avatar and it also has a Chaos Aura which enables it to do double damage. This means 500 AP x3 =1500 AP Now factor in Chaos Aura. 1500AP x2 =3000AP
So that makes it the most powerful close combat unit in the game.

Its really awesome to watch an Avatar fight a Bloodthirster, because when the Bloodthirster wins it kicks the Avatar down, then cuts it's head off with the axe.

The Avatar sucks because it doesnt have the fly ability which means it has to walk into combat. While its walking into combat, it's getting hit and taking damage.

Instead of using the World Eaters I use the Black Legion because when I get the Bloodthirster it has black armour instead of red which makes it look heaps better.

there is no way to heal ur avatar after battle and u can stop the bloodthirster losing health download a mod and use that thats the only way

I never was a big fan of the table-top warhammer.. It costs too much. but i didn't mind painting, customizing and building terrain & units. -that was okay.

I play chaos because I play them best. I love RTS games. If i had the choice, i would choose starcraft over WoW anyday. The game is balanced, and i trust that the game makers knew what they were doing. I haven't been proven wrong yet.

There is no point rambling on about how "undermined" the chaos are as compared to the table-top, because ITS NOT A *****ING BOARD GAME, its an RTS for computer. Learn some strategies, practice and stop *****ing.

after my oppinion the defilers are the best machines in the game, because against infantry they just fire their cannon while moving in for close combat and then they kill em all. against buildings they stand and use the cannon and the buildings go down in no time

Chaos in Warhammer history stretch back to the starting era's of the Old World... Chaos were the one thing that could unblance the power that kept their world and the World of men elves and every other race that exsisted at that time. When "like in Oblivion" a great invasion started many of the units we see in 40k arose to defeat or help Chaos. We dont see in DOW great units of chaos such as the pestilence of Nurgle or the great winged Tzeench beasts. So many of Chaos's greatest units have been missed out on. Just a little Warhammer history for all of you....

Blood thirster VS Avatar.
A) When does it ever happen to be a 1v1 battle?
B) The unit that is in cover will win. Use light and heavy cover.
C) The blood thirster is ment to be a tide turning unit. You summon it when taking the enemy army on and use it to fly behind their main lines and devestate them from within while your army bares down on them from without.
D) He's a super unit, yes, but is just part of your army, he is a small army by himself but is still quite killable.
E) He has the ability to --fly-- for a reason, and he can very easily solo the enemy base if you summon him in the middle of the enemy base Via infultration.

The game isn't ment to be played by "My army bigger than your's!"
Use strategy, most players don't build construction buldings outside their main base(hint).
Blood thirster is more mobile than the avatar, that is his strength, use it.

It would be nice to have some kind of mod where you can for instance summon bloodthirters on obliterators, by saying bloodthirster(S), i mean that all of them should turn into thirsters, i mean the "space marine losers" can use them grey knight losers to kill a bloodthirster in few secs. The rest can either overwhelm in numbers, or do some other stuff. So with abit hero power increase and some halfways anti daemon sqads on eldars and marines and IG. I hope a mod creator reads this though stick out tongue

Has anyone noticed that during a fight between an avatar and a bloodthirster, when one dies the killer preforms a finisher. For the avatar; the bloodthirster leaps onto him, the avtar knocks him away, rolls across the ground and then impales the bloodthirster. For the bloodthirster; the avatar does a spinning kick, the bloodthirster dodges, the avtar comes in for a side attack and has its head cleaved off by the bloodthirsters blade.
Also, in 1v1 fight the bloodthirster will own the avatar.
In a big battle, the bloodthirster will lose against the avatar if there are units backing it up.

c'mon guys everyone knows that an avatar is no match for a bloodthirster. the bloodthirster axe deals less damage but pwns the eldar's morale, and after they are broken they might as well kill themselves for all i care. anyway, the avatar is slower and easy to get away from, if ur smart then u just vault the daemon behind the avatar into cover and watch the avatar get pwned.

does anybody else think tht the avatar and bloodthirster are a bit slow at killing units? i was getting owned by a bloodthirster (after it owned my land raiders, predators, force commander etc) and then i through a unit of termis at it...they mauled it. sure it killed loads but my guys could reinforce faster thn it could kill. it spent so much time admiring the marine on its axe tht it let the termis get in a lot of damage before it hit back.

bloodthirster may be more powerful than the Khaine/Avatar, but Avatar boosts up the eldars production rate, morale, etc.

so it doesnt change anything, get the Avatar, strike the bloodthirster with your improved units.. = Dead Bloodthirster, goodbye

1. Chaos is the Most powerful Force in Both the 40k and Fantasy universes, although this is not always displayed by the units as that would create an unfair playing field.

2. They are the Servants of REAL GODS, whereas both the SM and IG follow some "Mr. Wrinkles" in life support.

3. This allows for them to Command the INFINITE ARMIES of the Void to battle with them, meaning you get one guy to summon, you can have an entire WORLD full of Chaotic Daemons and other Servants of the gods.

4. SM and IG get some techy guys, also on life support.

5. Abaddon The Despoiler Was 2nd in Command to Horus, one of the Original Space Marine Legion Commanders (these were broken down into "Chapters" after the "Horus Heresy", thereby further weakening the SM forces) and one of the "Sons" of the False Emperor. Abaddon is both stronger and wiser than Horus, who when all was won, did not strike, and so was blasted into oblivion.

If you knew anything about the Warhammer 40000 universe you would know that both the entire Eldar and Human races have at one time been totally battered by the might of the four Chaos Gods, infact the main reason that the Eldar are slowly drifting into extinction and went from being the rulers of the entire galaxy to the degenerate dregs they are in the year 40000A.D is that they were fatally cripled by the energy of chaos, infact due to the inclusion of chaos energy seeping into the Eldars flawed psyches they actually unwitingly created one of the chaos gods Slaanesh who then went on to destroy/feed upon their entire galatic empire.
