Cadian Inquisition Interview |
 |
This Page has been viewed 22,447 times Hello Meppa and Colonel! Thanks for taking the time out from working on your mod to answer some of the questions we have for you.
TheDoc: First could you give us a brief overview of your mod as well as your team?
Meppa: As I am only a code monkey I don't actually know my team. But mod i know
quite well so i will concentrate on that. We are trying to do Imperial Guard
army with some Inquisitional support. For those that don't play table top
this mean having lots of poor infantry and possibly the greatest tanks in
game with some very tough but rare elite infantry choices. When i think of
Imperial Guard I can only think of that one quote from rule book "If you
cannot crush them with words, crush them with the tanks of the Imperial
Guard". When you install this mod you can kill those heretics and especially
warp spawn creatures with incinerators and psycannons as well with those
tanks. I just love Imperial Guard with little bit of elite support.
Colonel: Meppa has basically described the mod as is, although i would like to add that i (personally) wish to add other regiments to the MOD such as the Praetorians.
As for the Team it currently stands at:
Coordinator/PR(ish) - Colonel
Lead Coder - Meppa
Voice Actor - Luug
Voice Actor - Rhyos
3d Artist/ 3d Animator/ Concept Art - Mockier
3d Artist/ 3d Animator - CMRVSUK
2d Artist/ FX - Schwifty
Concept Artist - Vacant
Tester - NihilisticDogma
Tester - GhOsT2525
Tester - Dkraver
TheDoc: Does Cadian Inquisition stand for your first attempt at a mod?

Meppa: Well, if we don't count those early days and some hex editor value changing yes.
Colonel: No, i have made and coordinated MODs for halflife/ Homeworld and Homeworld 2.
Although my Homeworld MODs were nothing notable really.
TheDoc: Will this mod be based on one of the three main branches of the inquisition?
Meppa: I don't quite understand this question so my answer might be off. This mod
will rely heavily on basic Imperial Guard but will have some Grey Knight
support in it. So I think that would mean it will be a mix of regular
Imperial Guard and demon hunter army. We will probably leave assassins out of
this one, but never say no
Colonel: As my esteemed colleague says we will have Grey Knight support during game play however the MOD does focus more on the Imperial Guard.
TheDoc: Will you be making custom models to more accurately depict the Cadians?

Meppa: We will make what ever is needed to accurately describe units that will be
on field. Only squad that is near ready is platoon and even that doesn't
have model for junior officer. Well, maybe we will use Toth as our
inquisitor as he is kind of good.
Colonel: In my opinion even the Relic created Models need changing, as so far to say by adding new weapon models (why they were released by Relic without a plasma gun i shall never know).
TheDoc: Will there be new tanks, or other vehicles(including a thunderhawk replacement)?
Meppa: What? Chimmy and two different Leman Russes isn't enough for you? We might
add Hell Hound since that is quite popular, but since you can have flamers
on one of those Leman variants it doesn't add that much more to game, so we
shall see.
Colonel: Of course, if we see a need arise we will add them. Until then, most likely not.
TheDoc: What is your favourite aspect of the DOW Engine?
Meppa: I haven't actually studied that engine that much, only messed with data
files. But it looks great and runs smoothly and those data files are easy to
edit.

Colonel: Dawn of Wars engine is nothing special in my book, infact the models could be 2d for all i care, all i want in a game is playability and value for money.
DoW gives me this, especially in the form of MODability.
TheDoc: Will you add more of the Codex options(I.E. Mortar Squads)?
Meppa: As this is DoW we can't add anything directly from codex. But some options
might be added. Even if this is in pretty good shape now, we have still a
lot of things to add. New squads require a lot of work and a lot of
balancing so I am not entirely eager to add new squads. Weapon options are a
different thing, those are easier to add. Still i might have to yield and
add Ogryns to game, as they are pretty popular. I can say that there won't
be mortar squads, but i might add mortars or sniper rifles as an upgrade
option to Fire Support Squad.
Colonel: Usually i have no control over what meppa adds because we try to keep the MOD to the point where people will want to download it and play it again and again.
However, certain aspects of the Codex would just be plain daft to add.
People do seem to want Snipers and Ogryns in Cadian Inquisition, its just finding the right place to put them really. I.e. does adding Ogryns make Fire Support a waste of time to build?
Deciding what goes in and what stays out of a MOD, or full game for that matter, is a very hard thing to do.
TheDoc: When can we expect to see the next release?

Meppa: Not before patch. You got one less then a week ago? It seems that nothing
can satisfy our fans . Next version will be released either soon after
patch (if there are problems with the current version and patched game) or when
we have gathered enough balance data to make some proper changes.
Colonel: I’m going to take the Corporate view on this and say "End of the Month"
TheDoc: How as Community Support been, anything the community can do to help Contribute?
Meppa: Well, we need a lot of balance data. Just be specific what is unbalanced and
against what. By playing and sending replays to our team or just telling
what is wrong you help. More specific you are, more you help.
Colonel: Like Meppa said, we need more contact from the players of Cadian Inquisition. We cannot just rely on ourselves for bug and balance data. Only recently were we made aware of a bug regarding Heavy Bolters, it was in Cadian Inquisition since v0.01. We really do need more help regarding testing.
TheDoc: Is there anything you would like to say to your fans?

Meppa: Play this mod. Play against your friend. Play against other people that use
this mod. Tell us what is wrong and help us make this a better mod. And
don't forget to participate in upcoming tournament.
Colonel: Exactly what Meppa has said, but i would like to add that this MOD is as much your MOD as it is our MOD. Also please feel free to join us in IRC at Server: irc.hwcommunity.com / Port: 6667 / Channel: #dowmods and chat to us as well as the rest of the team. (You can also pick up other players for a good old fashioned game of Cadian Inquisition).
TheDoc: Thanks again for taking the time to answer these questions Meppa and Colonel! Good luck with the project and the team at DOWFiles will be keeping a close eye on updates.

Somethings to check though :
-Do you have DoW installed?
-Do you have the mod in the same folder as DoW?
-Did you move the DoW folder/Cadin inquistion folder in anyway, which would screw up the shortcut's paths? |

The guardsmen look a little cheesy, so maybe you could enhance the textures on their armor or something. Anyway, really, really awsome. I like the snipers and the Kasrkin. Really well done. |
