  Another Patch Delay... - Official

This News Item has been viewed 15,346 times
Hey guys,

Thunder (Relic's Community Manager) has posted a new update regarding Soulstorm patch, which has yet again been delayed due to some critical bugs that have to be ironed out with the installer for the digitally distributed versions (ie. Steam...).

Hopefully, it shouldn't take that long. Read on if you want the full details:

Quote:
We wanted to post another update to keep Soulstorm fans informed of what's going on with the patch that we are working on. Here is the current situation:

We are making progress on the outstanding installation issues for the digitally distributed versions of Soulstorm. Currently there are five outstanding versions of the game that we are dealing with. We are hoping to have fixes for these versions of the game implemented by the end of the day today so that we can build a new patch tomorrow. The quality assurance team has verified our bug and balance fixes that are applied to the game itself, so that part of the patch has been finalized.

If the outstanding fixes are made today and a patch is built tomorrow, we would still require two to three days for the quality assurance team to test the patch and verify that it’s installing correctly on all versions of the game and there aren't any new bugs. Unfortunately this means that we won’t be ready before the weekend, so the patch will not be released this week.

We’d like to thank all of you for your continued patience as we climb these last hurdles to get the patch out.

- Thunder

It seems that this patch is the reason why Ironlore was closed. They give them a success game(DC) and they make it full of bugs(SS).

@ Kingoid1 I think i would rather have a patch that works right than a patch thats full of bugs. I'm sorry you can't handle that thats not my problem so don't blame me. If u were jokeing around thats 1 thing if you were being an @$$ then i feel sorry for you.

Just a point in response to Phenom and Euphoric, they said the QA had passed, so its not a matter of 'waiting so the patch is stable' any more, it already is as stable as its gonna be. The delay at the moment is just a matter of distribution.

Sounds like they could have released two different Patches. One for the regular boxed sold Game. And one for the Digital Downloaded Version. Many games have done it that way. So they could have released the Boxed Patch awhile back. But they instead have waited to release it all at once?? So we all suffer. confused
Didn't this game come out like what.. back in February. How many games do you know of that take 8 months after release to have a patch fix of ANY kind for them in this day and age. By the sounds of it this patch will be like 300mbs. As much "problems" as they seemed to have had with it. I hate to be the bad guy here, cause I love this game as much as the next player. But seriously, this has been TRULY ridiculous.
I have to assume that it's been a very small team working to get this patch done and out to the players. And that everyone else is working on DoW2. Which is good in a sense. But I have to wonder if this patch can even life up to the amount of exceptions we all probably have about it after such a unusually long wait for it's release.
And it may sound almost unreasonable to expect, since they have made no point of it to us as of yet, a greatly reduced load time for loads in-game, and less ram usage. Although I'm not sure myself why there was such a GREATLY increased Ram usage as compared to Dark Crusade. When the games are barely any different other then the two races added and the sad excuse of a "game changing" single unit addition to the existing races (which with as fast as the air units can be shoot down, they are more of an annoyance then a "Game Changer"wink. Which was made pretty obvious to use when moders where able to put out mod revisions for there mod for SS within a few short days of it's release.
And I'm not even going to start about the fact that the "Merit Rewards System" is COMPLETELY NONEXISTENT! Aaargh!!! Here's hoping THAT problem is taken care of too (But again they haven't said anything to give us a hope of that either).
Ok, ok I know this is stuff that most of us B***hed about 7-8 months ago. And although I didn't formally do it here at the time, trust me I did it out loud to my roommate, friends and online buddies who also play the game. And I have digressed from my point.
My point is that although it is definitely nice to get a patch finally out there for the game. I think by now it will be to little to late for alot of people. After waiting for 8 months even I have lost quite abit of my enthusiasm for the game in a fixed form. And I have to say that if their "Quality Assurance Team" had done there job properly to begin with along with everyone else involved, as they say they are doing now, maybe we would have only had to wait another month or two for the initial release of the game rather then 8 or so months AFTER.
And with that I think I'll end it here. Let's All hope for the best anyhow shall we.

"We have some progress to report on the Soulstorm Patch. We have just one remaining bug with the patch and we are waiting on some information to arrive today so we can fix it. If the information arrives we’ll put in a fix, if it doesn’t, it's not a major issue that we'll hold up the patch for at this point. We’ll move ahead with the full quality assurance test pass that is required to release the patch. Testing will take about three days, and barring the discovery of any new bugs, the patch will then be ready to ship.

Our thanks to the Soulstorm community for bearing with us as we work through these bugs and get this patch out the door.

- Thunder"

As it has gone unmentioned for now i though i might try to inform anyone who hadn't read it. And as i cannot create News posts myself and don't trust my email to work, i thought it best to post it here and let the Administrators and Staff decide if it is worthy of a new topic. If you want proof this information is genuine just go to the Relic site and check the News. This means 2 days(From now) then we see if the patch is Finally considered ready.
