TyranidMod announces plans for future releases - Mod News

Quote:
We've set up a new section to the Liber Xenos (the TyranidMod wiki) devoted to what we're planning on adding in the next few releases of the TyranidMod.

We currently have articles on a brand-spanking new Tyranid resource system, a very funky idea that should allow players to be able to tailor their forces strengths even further, what interesting things we'll be doing to builder units, and oh... are those hints about what's going to be in the campaign?

So for those who are interested in having a look, lanned_Advances">here's a link to those articles.

Oh, and the TyranidMod is in no way indicating that the 0.5 release is anywhere near completion. 'Cause it's not. Give us a few months. stick out tongue

You were disappointed with the last release? Why? What else comes close? Maybe 2, 3 placeholders, every unit except about two/the buildings had animations, and there were all new icons, AI and some sound. There is nothing else that comes close to that out for Dark Crusade. How were you very disappointed?

Great news, I cant wait for this, ive been waiting for it ever since ive heard about it, two years ago when it was started. Its amazing how well they've done, especially considering how many mods have been began, and than died. The only mod i want even more than this is the Witch hunters mod.

To those who "just want it done", you obviously haven't thought about what goes into a mod. Our modellers, animators and coders are all different people. That means that these projects won't slow us down any - because it's all happening simultaneously.

And for those complaining that we've had two years - we had to completely redo all our models after the 4th ed Tyranid release, which slowed our work majorly. On top of that, I don't see any of you coming up with bright ideas to make the job easier. Please, if you know how to speed things up, hop onto our forum and tell us. We'd love to be able to get the mod done as soon as we can.

The thing is though, what about DoW 2? We all know, at least on relicforums.com, that Dow 2 will feature the final 2 racesint he roster, the nids and the DE. So, again i ask why continu8e further? It is a good mod with a good ideabut insted of doing your ownmod, why ot influence relic with some of your ideas, put them in thesuggestion box on their forums.

Anyway, if you want to continue and get it done before DoW 2 than i am all for it, rock on with your gribbly self! RockRockRock

Errr #13 read what I said and read what you said. I'm not saying DI DI MAO faster!

I'm saying take all the time you need and release a complete version rather than release tid bits so enthusiasm and interest for the mod dies.

tempest : well to start i have to tell you my english isn't perfect because this is not my first my language, i do my best to express the most comprehensible what i think.

I am space marine player. When i heard about the coming out of a tyranid mod i saw a new way to get fun by kill a new race.

On the begining when i tested it i found very strange my units became slow and inefficient on the front of tyranids. I discovered it was a thing call the "toxic miasma" who provocate that on my units.
That thing pollute horibly the gameplay because the game get more longer, and i lost immediatly patience when i saw all my army unifficient in assaults.
The sadest thing is every tyranids buildings affect your units and get you from a very long distance.

My conclusion is you did a good job on the texture models but the gameplay you give on your mod is very bad for people who arn't tyranid players.

I think if you put the toxic miasma in a special building, to do the equivalent of tyranids turets, wich shoot at a moderate distance and affects only 1 squad could repair this problem.
( A turet wich shoot toxic isn't a bad idea i think)

There is no DoW2. That rumour was started by the German magazine Gamestar who reported that WA was going to be a sequel rather than an expansion.
Relic have not been signed for any more 40k games, and THQ's next big project is their 40k MMO.
Even excluding that, a DoW2 would cut into their revenue (extra development costs, and reduced income - because depending on how they do it, either people would stop buying DoW which still generates a reasonable amount of income, or else they wouldn't buy DoW2, which would make it pointless). There is no DoW2, and won't be for a while.

Woody2 - I can understand that. But that's not what NoMAMM was saying, and his was the sort of attitude I was more answering.

FreeElemeth - we're trying to represent what it's like to fight Tyranids. That is what Tyranids do; they pump the air full of spores so that you feel like your lungs are being devoured (because they are), the whole world starts turning against you. Tyranids don't use turrets, because technically they don't need to defend themselves on the ground. We're trying to get the whole "this isn't your planet anymore" feel.

And Angus_Man, Stryer's taking care of the carnifex, I doubt he could do it wrong if he tried.

Zahagiel glad to hear that you guys are taking your time with this one (Its kinda like a fine wine).big grin So it doesnt bother me.The reason was the beta jus didnt cut it for me... yea I know thats all it was but hey everyone is allowed there opinion.Look at how long compiler has been working on the DH mod. They never released any beta's & yet im sure when you guys are done the tyranid mod will be a force to be reconed with. All im really saying though is atleast think everything through & work out the bugs (if any). What matters most for me is the final product cant say for everyone else, though they all seem too impatientRoll Eyes (sarcastic) I can wait because I know it'll be worth the DL when its completed. So cheersBeer! Beer! heres to the Tyranid mod team!

I know exactly what you mean. 0.4 didn't cut it for me either - we put it together really as a showpiece so that everyone could see that we are actually progressing. Most of the really niddy stuff is yet to be released, and since I'm gameplay design that's what I really look forward to seeing in-game.

Thanks - it's dedicated fans who make the whole thing more fun. smile

#22 You said : "Tyranids don't use turrets, because technically they don't need to defend themselves on the ground."

you put your toxic in buildings, thats a tactical defense. What im trying to say is put the toxic in an appropriate building.
Anyway, if you won't understand the toxic disturb seriously the gameplay, that s your problem. The consequence will be only tyranid players will enjoy your mod.
You have the choice to change things

it only slows your men down wich relly doesnt effect a range orientated army such as sm tau but it will effect melle ones but due to the main nid force being melle they will stillg e tint he fight and it help to stop danncing wich annoys the crap out of melle players (not me) it a race trait such as nec just dont stay down they get up n up up no matter howmany time you blow them up with nukes!

Well Elementh, you are the only person who's got annoyed at it. Neither gamers nor computer AI seem to be any less effective against Tyranids than any other race. So it doesn't seem to "seriously disturb" the gameplay - and trust me, we've tested it more thoroughly than you have.

Yes, toxic miasma makes your units less effective, but it does nothing to harm them; meaning that Tyranids are still going to be very worried by your troops, because it doesn't remove the threat they present (compare that to active defenses such as turrets where, oh gosh! They're KILLING your units! That must REALLY disturb the gameplay, because dead units are even LESS effective! stick out tongue).

As Omega Lord says, Tyranids are not very good at range which means that (a) outside of toxic miasma (which means, most of the map), they're at a disadvantage, and (b) inside toxic miasma, you still need to chase down the invaders with troops, which rules out a strategy every other race gets - turtling. It also means that a Tyranid player will have to spend more on defenses, because strangely enough you can repair turrets - repairing gaunts can be a tad more difficult. They die easier for one.

So we have fairly good reasons for not being too worried about it doing anything harmful to the gameplay.

I would like to point out that the Toxic Miasma aura has a radius of approximately the range of a space marine, meaning that anything with a range longer than that won't even be affected by it - so most tanks, dreadnoughts and whathaveyou. Flamers also should be fairly effective against it too.

It's about adapting your strategies.

To all those who are whining;
Do YOU think YOU could do it any faster? Or at all? I know I sure as damn couldn't (apart from notknowing how the hell to anyway stick out tongue )

So, leave em be. I liked the mod, admitedly the glitches are a bit wierd n stuff, but wtf.
And Im wondering if Nids will be done for the next expansion too...Roll Eyes (sarcastic) lol, im sure Relic spy on u guys.

Anyways, nice work n keep at it!
