Just a heads up:
I will be using some ideas you guys gave me last time for poll ideas; however, I felt this is quiet important and thus had to be posted.
Tell me what you think
what about a i dont have it opption
atm theres 0/0% ppl who hate it. this is good news and it looks like most ppl love it
DIDNT I TELL U IT WAS GOOD....oh wait i didnt
FYI TOO EVERYONE.
Make sure when you play this game, you have at least a 2 core processor with 3.0 GHz or higher. The new game engine is basing its graphics and everything else mostly from the CPU. And the rest with the RAM and video card.
its a good game apart from the fact that u have to download it from steam.......i bought it from the shops so i wouldnt have to download it.... o and wen i was playing campaign mission Angel Gate i was capturing a generator and i sent my assault marines to jump onto sum orks and it came up with a scar error, then it carried on as normal...
i love the campaign mode it is great and the wargear is a good adition to have it as pick ups and rewards for completing missions that way you can really personalise your squads to you style
cople of things though wile i was playing a short (5 hours) session it can get a bit repertive go here capture this or this and then kill this after a wile it gets boring. also i dont no if this is just me but theres a fue pathing problems as well like my units seem to get stuck on what shoudl be a easy move
other than that its a dead good game and its one i will be playing offen just not 5 hours offen
9/10 for relic
Can't say this poll wasn't predictable... probably because it's such a good topic right now
I voted for excellent, simply because it re-defines EPIC. There are a couple of things that could be patched though - only weapon wargear shows up on the models in multiplayer, maybe some more multiplayer maps, but apart from that I can't praise Relic enough.
game is great, Steam And Games For Windows Live/Internet required to get is NOT.
This game is so EPIC!!!! But there are still some bugs I have found (Hive Tyrant's body freezing???) and the AI needs some work. It's not amazing YET.
Finally, ive been waiting for days with my nails almost out to bite with. Now i can see the true meaning of War against the nids.
weres the "havn't played it yet button"?
cause i had it pre-ordered, and getting it for my b-day in 2 weeks.
my comp can play it, but from what iv herd its not all that great i expected it to be, but since i havnt played it i wont select an answer yet =)
i think relic is gay for teaming up with windows live coz u have to download the game...I BOUGHT THE DISK SO I WUDNT HAVE TO DOWNLOAD IT RELIC!
It's DoW II. So yeah, it's great. You don't need to download the game off Steam.. You just need to patch with Steam.
Somehow I can't convince myself to buy Dow2.
The concept simply doesn't appeal to me. I'll wait and see.
Still playing at least 1 game of soulstorm everyday.
im literally installing it right now, looks good but im not sure if it will work
Unsurprisingly for a DoW fan-site, the poll results go from best to last in popularity (so far). I voted the 4th option, it's enjoyable, but there's just something missing that makes it Dawn of War
*best to worst.
Yes, it didn't mean that much but I hate making grammar/spelling mistakes
I'd say the 'missing' thing is simplicity... but hey, that's just me.
The Bright side is the top two polls average at this time over 67% total in favor as a great game while the Dark side, the bottom 4 at this time average over 31% total as a so/so game to garbage. Wait a month as we get a better idea. Waiting for all the top critics point of view for now. lol
DoW 2 is an awesome game... but i think DoW 1 will be still a popular game
I have 2 points to make here;
1. Despite being more squad based, rather than army based (as DoW was), DoW 2 is everything I thought it would be and more. I particularly enjoy the RPG feel that has been imparted by the leveling system, and the personalities given to each of the squad's sargents. It is to RTS what Mass Effect was to FPS: a fusion of the best of both worlds, and an epiphany of what can be done.
The second point I need to make is, to me, the more important of my two points.
2. I thought I paid for a complete game. I was wrong.
With screen size and resolution change issues, having to endure a SIX step install process, having to sign up for not one, but TWO online communities (Steam & Live), I then had to frustratingly wait for a huge patch to download ON THE DAY THE GAME WAS RELEASED!! (in Australia, I"ll grant, the 19th Feb)
It was two whole hours from when I put the DVD in the drive to when I got the opening movie to play.
Yes, the box said "Internet connection requires for activation". That should mean a one-off anti-piracy authentication check. I'd be more than fine with that. No, it's a forced, no opt-out available patching system. When I come home from work, I don't want to wait for a patch to download that I can't stop, I want to relax by playing the game I enjoy.
Totally, totally unacceptable.
I rated the game as Garbage. I wouldn't recommend it to my dog.
sigh you people should stop complaining about everything, everything don't go your way, and you should seriously stop doing stupid speculations of how great the game is because it just doesn't work that way.
Lapetus, to be fair, prior release of DoW II Relic did announce that you need a Steam and GFWL account, and also talked about their plans on a Day 0 patch which would add a lot content such as: two extra maps, updating their campaign to be more enjoyable, and so on.
I quite like the campaign especially the new fluff which is appearing abut the blood ravens.
I like the idea of leaving up your squad leaders and commanders, and that they have access to different wargear.
The only problem is that i have is that i brought 2 copies so i colud play lan multi player games. on my old p4 it works fine (but lags), but on my new computer i can't get the game to sign into windows live, or create a profile, it just freezes up.
DOW II has 2.5 stars on Amazon with as many one star reviews as five star reviews. There are very good reasons why this has happened.
First: this is not a DOW game! It is all squad combat with no heavy weapons or support troops. Gone are all the Combined Arms that makes DOW such fun.
Second: their is no building! A level up system is fine for D&D but this should not be D&D.
Third: STEAM! What happened to selling us a game? Why was this little item hidden from us? Instalation is almost impossible and can take multiple tries to gain access. After that, to play we need a STEAM and a Windows Live ID.
I agree with post #21but it appears this new game needs crutches. DOW 1 is the way to go and its such a great series of games that its replay value will linger for another doz. years or more! I hope the future DOW 3 series is not toooo demanding and compatible with Windows 7.
its ok, its what i was expecting due to the previews/whatnot, but it just feels rushed out the door, and the fact that there is a vista 32 memory bug which causes me to play it on the lowest settings and still risk crashes even tho my comp should be able to handle it on medium/high is a real let down.
.....oh and the lack of multiplayer maps is ......ill be nice and use the word 'unacceptable'.......
People should get this through their heads already,
STEAM is here because of you whiners who complained about the lack of updates and patches during the DoW sega. "OMFG, RELIC PLZ PATCH FFS" was the reason Relic went with Steam. Malice, a patch has been released through STEAM that fixes that. You should be fine now. Maps aren't lacking, and considering it's only been out five-six days people, I'd stfu and wait for Relic to start rolling out the DLC.
I'll get around posting some important DoW II links tomorrow for people such as Malice who are facing such bugs and all.
i dont know what it was but when i played against 3 armies of eldar with 2 armies of SM as my allies (annihilation mode)..... i couldnt spawn anything after about an hr and a half of play...... i must admit i was defending most of it..... thanks to eldar grav tanks sheild upgrade.... but other than that problem i just lost units but kept the population cap.... i finished the level... losing with just a techmarine commander left ..... and a pop cap of 76/100??
just wanted to know if anyone else had those problems too??
It's a cap pop bug. It's been taken care of and Relic expects to release a patch in the near future.
BEFORE anybody else posts their own bugs/issues, go here http://community.dawnofwar2.com/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=12522 and read there.
#26... if you'd actually read the reviews on Amazon you'd find out that the only reason it has 2.5 stars is because people are whining about (you guessed it) Steam. For some reason though, people now have the idea that "it uses Steam, so the game is crap." The game itself is great, no reason to bring it down with you when you rant about the MP host.
oops... didn't mean to put 'is great' in bold, that's just my opinion
DoW will always be FAR superior to this game IMO. The lack of base-building in Dow2 is a huge let-down to me as that's one of the things I most enjoy about an RTS. Also, the levelup system is kind of dumb. DoW, to me, is about spamming units and having ridiculously enormous battles on equally huge maps...not giving orders to the same exact guys in every single mission...that gets repetitive, very fast. And to all of those guys who are telling us to stfu for complaining about Steam...guess what, Steam and Windows live are a part of DoW2 and are therefore, valid reasons to not like the game. Even if you think the gameplay is nice, having Windows Live running in the background is crap....it's essentially Microsoft Certified spyware and all it's good for is dropping frame rates and ruining the game experience (though IMO, the game took care of that by itself!). Good thing I played the Beta and didn't waste my money...
I agree with you about GFWL, but Steam is not 'part' of DoW2, it is simply required to run it, and holds no limitations over DoW2 in-game like GFWL does (correct me if I'm wrong). If anything, DoW2 is part of Steam.
Steam was explained in post #29.
Bean the whole point of this poll is to see the opinions of fellow DoW players on DoW II, so don't tell them to "stfo" or "gtfo" as they are saying their own opinions on the game. You should also understand people have different experiences with Steam/GFWL and thus may have a negative reaction to it.
Regardless of why steam was concieved to be used, it obviously now is a very unpleasent system to deal with. People were expecting to buy this game and start playing it, not having to go through all this online worthlessness, That's probably why a lot of people are upset, and they should be, STEAM and GFWL was a bad choice imo, they should've kept the Relic Online server like with Coh, that would have been so much better IMO.
Bean, not here to insult you, as I'm sure your ego won't allow that, but people are allowed to state what they want, you should not stop them or attempt to stop them, it makes you look like you care what they think ;P
Enough to police them into not saying it.
The CoH system had massive amounts of drop hacks. Relic only moved to Steam and GFWL because of the whining community.
Yes that is completely true, drophacks were very annoying and lame, but I believe that many other people, would rather have a game we could actually play and enjoy, even if it had drophacks than one that makes it as hard as relic did. It's simply a preferance choice I suppose.
I just remember in the first dow, you didn't need an internet to play, it's why I liked dow in the first place, it was simplistic and awesome. Now with all this steam and GFWL stuff it's just not as fun as it could have been with something like Relic Online perhaps.
But some people who have great internets don't really care about all of that, they just want to help their side of the problem.
Have you even played DoW II? It's just as simple as DoW was. Seriously, even the smallest issue can be found on the Steam tabs or the DoW II Tech Support forum. People are just too lazy to look up anything anymore.
"it's just as simple as DOW was"-BeanTheKing
That's a broad statement, that's true in some area's but not overall, The gameplay is much simpler, The handling and getting the game to install/run in the first place is not, let alone the constant patches that have to be applied,
Why should people be forced to go to a forum and learn the process of installing a game using a system they might have no experience with to play a game that they purchased with their money for and simply want to install and run?
It's ridiculous, and far from (simple) outside of the gameplay components.
and Don't get me started on GFWL with the delay's it throws onto the patching process.
and yes Beany, i have DOW2, would you like a game?
Bean, break a rule again and I'll have you perma banned.
First off, I'd say that Dawn of War II's single player campaign is my favorite aspect of the game thus far. Personally, I like the lack of base building in favor of focusing on the tactical and RPG side of things. There's a real sense of progression and accomplishment leveling up your squad commanders and outfitting them with better gear. I particularly like how the Space Marines are finally as badass as they are depicted in the books. The missions are fairly repetitive, usually consisting of "go here and kill this enemy," but that's not much of an issue for me.
Multiplayer is more of a mixed bag. I haven't played a match against a human opponent yet, but I've practiced against the AI. I still don't quite have the hang of it gameplay-wise. Perhaps I'll come to enjoy it more when I've learned all the nuances of the races.
I don't know why people have such hatred for Steam. I first used the service when I purchased The Orange Box, and I think it's a great way to distribute content and foster a community for PC games. I've heard that early versions of the application were plagued with sometimes fatal crashes and bugs, but I haven't run across anything like that. Give it a chance, guys. Save your vitriol for Games for Windows Live. That service is just stupid.
One more thing: I guess Relic was feeding us a line of BS with their Tyranid excuses. I haven't seen anything in this game that they couldn't have implemented for Tyranids in the first Dawn of War.
I choose option 7: I haven't got it yet, so i'm still believing every last tiny thing in the trailers will be as awesome as it sounds.
I look forwards to the campaign... assuming i don't end up having as much success as i had with the tabletop one (Commander lost an arm and a leg in that, gained some incredibly basic bionics and a grand total of 2 veteran points... in about 6 weeks of campaign battles fighting Every week.) I hope for the best, but know the second worst will happen.
Anyone who says steam sucks doesn't know what they're talking about.
If you think its bad, you should have seen it when it was just released at around the same time Half Life 2 first came out. Fatal bugs, eating ram, friends lists dead.
Its so much better now.
#48 True, it has come a long way, but it's far from perfect.

Steam does suck, no if what but about it, it needs loads of work. im not saying its not a good idea, but it has soooo many flaws, and even though there are fewer than there where it still has many. Relic really made a mistake with this call.
and who's idea was steam activation on install? they should be shot! i have the game sitting in front of me and i cant play it coz steam is being all crappy! why oh why they did this i do not understand, patches were fine coming out in DoW1 and i see no reason why so many people moaned. oh well its done now, hopefully the next game can rectify some of the steam and GFWL issues

campaign is great. Still trying to get used to multiplayer and learn all the races. The only thing i really hate are the Tyranids would have rather seen them as a cameo apperance like Necrons in WA than have them as 1 of the 4 races but what ever whats done is done still a great game. Oh i also love that there is no more base building so much more tactical now

I was going to buy DoW II, especially 'cos I enjoy CoH so much, but I remember ages of patch dowloading to play that, and I really can't be bothered with signing up to een more online stuff. It might provide some sort of better experience + even more downloads, but i'd just like to buy a game and play it. A physical disk that I own (under the terms of the end-user license agreement of course), that i'm able to mod if i'm lucky, and a developer's website for checking patches/bug fixes. Old games like Age of Empires never had any of these problems - at least not as far as I know...
