wtf golden daemon?
Golden Demon is the largest miniatures painting competition in the world. Each year, thousands of hopeful entrants show their creations to the judges and each year we give away a horde of awards and the much-coveted Slayer Sword - the highest accolade at the show. In the run-up to the event, information on how to enter and all of the categories is published in White Dwarf magazine and here on
the Golden Demon homepage, along with a useful Golden Demon Survival Guide

i'm going and to games day!
Cool #2^^ well said!
I'm not going but I wish I was...
still i think its a waste of time i just play the game but if u wanna do it am not gonna stop u
you have my pitty saoreire
Well i had no idea what it was, but thx #2, that did explain it.
Now i want to go!!
But, i know there will be no way, stupid camp.
But, it does sound very cool, but i think i would only watch it.
btw, does anyone happen to know were you can get the models to paint? I've been very interested in it.
It depends where you live. There are some independent model/gaming stores (just follow the nearest geek & he'll lead you to it), then there are some Retail Toy Stores who stock them (World of Wonder) & then in most major cities (in UK anyway) there are the actual Games Workshop Retail Outlets. The staff at the GW stores & the gaming/model stores usually know a good bit about TT & can help.
Or you can order on-line ( http://www.games-workshop.com ), but the prices online usually match the in-store prices so including shipping it'd be more expensive.
Also you could try ebay. Most stuff there are really cheap compare to the GW prices (Its an expensive hobby!). You can also get fully assembled & painted units too for dirt-cheap prices. I baught a few models from ebay.

I've meant to go for the last 4 years but I always seemed to just forget about it as the date drew near. I suck at painting and I'm not that good at playing, so I'd just be looking at the pretty models, which are admittedly awesome.
yo collusus.....if ur interested in the game then find out if theres a games workshop near where you are..http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.uk < or go there.........anyway...i would like to go...but eh.....i can just wait for the booklet of all the winners to come out with a white dwarf......i'll go someday....does anyone know if there are bjorn the fell handed rules?
No no and no I am not and I do not wish to.
you dont need a games workshop store to enjoy their products actually a hobby/gaming shop is usually better then a GW only store as you can be exposed to other things as well and your not forced to use the awful citadel paints.
u can actully make your own models for warhammer 40k as loang as they fit into the race e.g. i wanted to make a highly moble guard regiment that just use snipers (whixch is hard) i didnt want to use the existing models of the valkrys so i used a blackhawk helecopter from scratch with a lil help from the 5 airfix kits and just updated them in weapons and make them look like 40000ish but u have to make the stats of it realistic and u have to have ur opposing players consent. i once played wit them it was really kl cuz i kick ass
now you can make a 40k version of black hawk down the date is september 23rd
Whats wrong with the citadel paints? I'd go, but dont have teh money and live in the northern wastes Thats too far from everything
i have brillant ideas for this sorta stuff im only 15 and i have no resourses to do the stuff i want to do
Are Warhammer figurines actually made out of gold? It would explain why they're so expensive.
if its a competition for painting then im not going (not that i was befor) because my space marines look like ^$#*
i suck at painting and i always forget about it untill its too late, but i have a huge army so may attend games day (when is it?, hehe)but i agree with #15, GW sfuff is sooooo expensive, its like £25 a tank, , c'mon, they make enough money as it is, they could lower the prices and make more money, as soo many more people would buy them
end ranting
i might go....(if i remember)
its about £50 to go to golden daemon. in one of my oldest white dwarf mags, they were £5! games workshop has recently over the past few years, jacked their prices so high, i only look on ebay, or get discount ones at my hobby shop.
to wrap it up "i cant be bothered to go because its a waste of money". <should of added that into the poll*
To no 18 -
The Gamesday Tickets aren't the £50 you say they are.
Its more like £25 for a ticket and £35 for one with a coach to Birmingham and back
(these are organised by the GW stores) so it actually saves money compared to going in a car by yourself. The only time i've ever seen them beeing anywhere near £50 is when they come with a one year White Dwarf subscription.
Back to the poll, I wont't be entering Golden Daemon as I can't compare with the talent that there is. Im a decent enough painter for making the miniatures nice looking for battle but a Golden Daemon statuette is way out of reach.
To no 11 -
To be legal in gaming terms, the models have to use 50% GW products, they have to be the right scale and the rules have to be playtested several times (usually by GW staff) so that they are fair. You can't just invent rules and then use them, because they can be Beardy - that's probably why you kicked ass (i'm not trying to impune your playing abilty or your conversion abitity).
i lost all interest in the 40k minuter game. I would play if the hadn't jacked the bloody price up to 30$ a firkin squad of bace infantry, damn.. sad sad.
those who r going, make us proud *sniff*
unfortunately i am not going but i wish i was Golden demon *drools*
games day is the golden deamon, it's on the 23rd and you can game there, you can meet authors, buy forge world stuff and even playtest the latest warhammer video games
might be a wee bit hard for me to go as I live in New Zealand, does anyone know if they hold this competition here?
I am Iam entering a Forge World Shadowsword Titanicus (i think its called that) oh and Furioso the Blood Angels dreadnought i have no chance of winning but atleast theres other stuff to do lol i would send pics but i dunno how lol
im not going but do / dont wanna go, it would be so fun, but i would end up spending
all my money on the drooleable forgeworld products and then ide probably get back into moddleing again, spend about £200 and realise all ive got is a bunch of rubbishy painted plastic!
i do enjoy it but cmon £20 for 10 sm!! imagine how mush money it would cost to have as many units as you do on dow!!!!!!!
its 50$ bucks for tac squad and 65$ for tank
surely if you have played dawn of war for a while now, you must have considered looking at the games workshop site and the thousands of articles they have for modeling scenery, upcoming events, converting models, painting guides etc
Just so you know GW stuff is expensive because it lasts 5x longer than your $10 action figure. And also, where would they get cash for your Golden Demons and Games Days?
The thing about the price is that you're not paying entirely for the models, you're paying for the hobby. The models themselves as far as materials and production go, cost only a dollar or so. The real expense comes from the things chosen40k mentioned: the tips, the tricks, the events, the scenery, the upkeep, etc. You're buying the hobby when you pick up a $150 battleforce, not just a hunk of polystyrene.
lol #2
You just copied and pasted that from the website!!!
But hey, at least your going, i wish i was.
I'm not doing shit for Games Workshop until they lift the ban on Damnatus. They treat their customers like crap, and this is the last straw.
First of all, here's the trailer of the fan-made, non-profit, completely free Warhammer 40,000 film: Damnatus
http://www.damnatus.com/seite.php?file=film
And here is the petition which resulted from Games Workshop changing it's mind and telling them they can't release it *AFTER* it was completed, even though they told them it was okay in the first place. Four years of blood, sweat, and tears gone to waste.
http://www.petitiononline.com/damnatus/petition.html
So, screw the Golden Demon, screw Games Workshop, and anything they sell.
golden deamon is not just paining it is gameing too....!!!
To # 33 GW has the right to kill anything 40k or Fantasy related. Why? Because GW owns 40k and Fantasy, giveing them the right to kill your 4 year film. The creators have no right to complain because they didnt make 40k.
Case Closed
i used to love it when i was into 40k
dont collect anymore
but would be nice to go and see peoples efforts
BAH!!! sounds like nerds to me
To number #35: You obviously didn't bother reading, or you would have noticed the part about Games Workshop authorizing the movie and then later changing their mind after all the time and effort had been put in.
And if you think it's their "right" to pull that kind of crap, that's cool, it's my right not to buy anymore of their crappy 13 cent miniatures for 10 dollars a piece. And so long as they choose to exert their rights, I, and many others, are going to exert ours.
Case closed.
okay, then don't buy any of their products again. Also, if you're really determined, you'll throw away your copy of DOW, and therefore there will be no reason to come to this site again.
does any one know what the date its on and where its being held?
If you think it sounds like nerds wy do you then pla the game???
ment to say play
I would if I could paint as well as the winners paint... They paint AMAZINGLY.
Also, about the movie that was cancelled, blame it on German IP laws. If GW authorized this movie they'd lose all claim to their IP there, and then any bozo off the street could pass off a poorly made fanfilm as official GW merchandise.
i can't believe so many of you have never heard of the golden demon.
first, if you were going to put four years of work into anything, make 100% sure you got the ok to do it start to finish in legal terms.
second, the reason GW shut it down is because of their tight hold on all pattens and copyrights, thats how they keep there prices high and maintain monopoly on 40k, damnatus *technically* did not get a legal OK, only a verbal from what i understand. its the same thing with the halo mod for DOW, they didnt get the legal and because of it they were shut down.
i wish damnatus would have kept going and just youtubed it or something, once its out there its not coming back.
Geez guys, give it a rest abt that movie! Its off-topic.
it is interesting though
as my title says ive voted 8 times and it still says i havent voted is it my internet or the site....
myself want to go but i cant (you know different countries n stuff)
i would go, if i was a decent painter or had a legal, fully painted amry, or could be bothered
however, my mate is going and claims that the slayer sword is in the bag
#37... You are posting on a message board and calling US nerds?!
But anyways... Has it been a year already... I will be going this year since I have been telling myself for 7 years that I am going to go and this will finally be the year...
well, i would definitely go if it was in the US, but from i'm seeing, it appears it's only in the UK, which kinda sucks (for me anyway).
OH, AND #49, IT MAY SAY THAT YOU DIDN'T VOTE, BUT IT DOES AND IT'S JUST PUTTING UP THE WRONG MESSAGE, THOUGH I DON'T SEE WHY YOUR VOTE NOT GOING THROUGH IS A BIG DEAL.
i can afford it only tha u tramps cant
